Can Cats Eat Crackers?

Crackers are mostly taken as snacks, normal meals, or appetizers. Crackers can be crumbled into soup, slathered with sweets, or covered with spices. Crackers are not the best snack to give your cat. You should keep the crackers out of your kitty’s reach. Some crackers may not react to your cat immediately, while others do not lead to life-threatening symptoms. All the same, crackers do not add any health benefits to your cat’s body. Moreover, crackers contain high amounts of calories and salt and may disrupt your cat’s sensitive digestive system. In most cases, crackers are considered junk food. Therefore, cats do not need them.

Risks of feeding your cat crackers.

Crackers are merely carbohydrates with added salt. They do not add any vitamin, minerals, or phytochemicals to your cat’s health. Since crackers do not contain any micronutrients, the carbohydrates in crackers may lead to weight gain and cause obesity. Non-nutritional and non-satisfying food such as crackers may cause your furball to overeat. An overfed kitty is lethargic, clumsy, and short of breath. 

Obesity may also add stress to your furball’s musculoskeletal system. A fat cat is also at risk of diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. Crackers also made with ingredients that are harmful to the cat’s health. They contain flavors like garlic and chives, which are toxic to felines. The added salt in crackers can increase the risk of high blood pressure, salt poisoning, and dehydration.

Can cats eat crackers? No, they cannot. Feeding your cat on crackers is unhealthy and can expose your kitty to several health problems or even sudden death.
